Replacing or shaping worn hammers. Pianos as well as grand pianos, moderately used for 5 to 8 years can have grooves at least 1/16" (approx. 1.5 mm) deep, and most with 20 to 30 years of use can have grooves 1/8" (approx. 3 mm) deep, as you can see. In this condition a piano should have the hammers reshaped (about 3-4 hours)*.

Hammer Voicing - new hammers and reshaped old hammers often produce a tone that is too brilliant but can be softened to make their tone mellow. In other instances the hammers can be made brighter, particularly in the high treble section (about 2-3 hours)*.
Replacing broken, cracked or yellowed keys with an entire set of new plastic key tops can dramatically affect the look and feel of your piano (about 5-6 days)*.
